Seaprog and Substation present…

Clearly Beloved at Seaprog 2018, photo by Danette DavisSeaprog is proud to partner with Substation to bring you the first of what we hope will be many “Seaprog Presents” events. On Thursday, April 11, we’ve got three Seaprog veteran bands scheduled to play a show.

Moraine (2013, 2018) is one of the best known progressive bands in the Northwest, and (obviously) no stranger to our stages. But even if you’ve seen them before, it’s worth catching them now. They’ve got new material, and are fresh off their successful shows opening for the legendary Soft Machine.

Fang Chia (2014) is an eclectic group from Tacoma that combines rock, jazz, electronics, and more into a unique sound all their own. You never know what this band is going to come up with next.

Clearly Beloved (2018) was one of the highlights of last year’s festival, with their catchy, clever, artistic take on progressive folk rock. They don’t perform very often, so don’t miss this chance to catch them on stage.

For quite a few years now, the Substation has been one of Seattle’s best venues for live music, presenting a wide range of artists from many genres. Be sure to check out the Facebook event page for more details and to RSVP.

Artists profile: Shimmertraps

Shimmertraps is a band based in Bellingham. After quietly releasing their debut album in 2017, Shimmertraps spent the next two years pouring their time and creative energy into what they consider to be, “our most collaborative album yet.” With the addition of 2 new members to the project, “LOOK!“ (2020) became an exciting change of pace for the band. Together, they wrote, recorded, mixed and produced the entire album in their outskirt Bellingham living room. Evolving from their dreamy soundscapes and fuzzy lofi production, Shimmertraps boldly introduces their punchy, disco-focused rhythms paired with a plethora of wide and luscious sounding synths across the sonic journey of “LOOK!”. The band has proven to blend a variety of different genres and sounds into a captivating concoction, further defining the sound of Shimmertraps.

Artist profile: Clearly Beloved

Clearly Beloved is a gathering of five musicians, friends and storytellers. They write and orchestrate songs about fishermen; homesteaders; the feeling you get the moment before a shark attack; the flight of a carrier pigeon. Having at their disposal guitar, drums, bass, violins, marimbas, vocals, hand bells, toy piano, viola and glockenspiel, they are not opposed to using anvil and hammer, when the song calls for it. Nor are they opposed to dancing a tango with large paper mache dolls when required. They have not written about heartbreak, but do have songs about baking bread.

First “Seaprog Presents” concert slated for 28 Jan 2016

In the first of a number of one-off events presented by Seaprog during the off-year before the festival returns in 2017, Seattle instrumental avant-rock stalwarts Moraine return to their favorite local venue in the company of two formidable festival favorites, Nosretep and Super Z Attack Team.

Join us at the Columbia City Theater on Thursday 28 January, 2016. And make sure you RSVP to the event on Facebook while you’re at it.

Of course, you’ll remember Moraine from their 2013 headlining slot. The other two groups played in the front room (Super Z Attack Team in 2014 and Nosretep in 2015), so they’ll get a chance to play the main stage this time.

Isthmusia is a young band out of Kingston, Washington, proving that you really can’t guess where good music will be made. They are nothing if not eclectic, blending heavy elements with lighter sounds, powerful crashing with tricky math rock.
