Seaprog Presents Moraine, Nosretep, Mind Beams at Jules Maes Saloon 13 March 2026

We are very happy to announce a new event, our first at Jules Maes Saloon in Georgetown. On Friday March 13, you can catch Moraine in their first performance in a very long time, along with mind-bending heavy math trio Nosretep and mind-beaming band Mind Beams. Jules Maes Saloon is a venue that’s friendly to original music, and can certainly be called one of the oldest bars in Seattle, if not the oldest. The establishment dates back to 1888, though it was founded under a different name just down the block from its current location. It’s a hub for cultural (and culinary!) activity in the Georgetown neighborhood. It’s safe to say that the patrons of the saloon in 1888 would be disoriented to see how it (and the surrounding area) have changed in the intervening decades.

Moraine is no stranger to our events, having played at our first festival in 2013 and several times since. But they’ve never been a band to sit still, and they’re now operating as a six-piece with the reintroduction of cellist Ruth Davidson, who was one of the group’s founders, but left for many years. They’ve got some old material revamped for the new configuration as well as new tunes specifically designed for six instruments. Their three albums on Moonjune Records show a band with a unique take on the combination of chamber music with rock,

Nosretep has also appeared at multiple Seaprog events, and they’ve also undergone some changes, resurfacing in 2025 after a long hiatus with a new album, and now a new bassist, Ursula Stewart. Ursula has played in other groups on the local scene for many years (Sugar Skulls, The Glutz), and she’s an exciting addition to Nosretep, joining Mike Peterson (drums) and Igor Abuladze (guitar). They play tunes from their two studio albums as well as new material, and they never fail to put on a show that is both intense and precise. They manage a balance of technical virtuosity and hard rock accessibility that’s been impressing audiences for years. Their music is available on Bandcamp.

Mind Beams
Mind Beams

Mind Beams has been around for a while in Western Washington, but this will be their first time playing an event for us. They’ve got a sound that draws on psychedelic rock, progressive rock, and more. Meredith Myre (vocals), Alex Stys (bass), Derek Palaniuk  (drums), and Dustin Williams (guitar) released an EP in 2025 called Ashes, and you can check it out on their Bandcamp page.

We’re looking forward to this amazing bill, and our first event at Jules Maes. Advance tickets are available now for the mind-bogglingly reasonable price of $10, so save yourself a bit of cash and pick them up now. This is a show you don’t want to miss.

We’re happy to announce another in our ongoing series of Seaprog Presents events. This one will take place on Saturday, May 27 at Darrel’s Tavern in Shoreline.

Moraine continues to unveil new tunes, alongside Bellingham’s formidable Spine Readers and the debut of Dennis Rea’s new psych-rock cover band, the Whateverly Brothers, in that order.

Moraine has built a reputation as an electrifying, wide-ranging instrumental band, gaining an international audience with their unique amalgam of art rock, forward-thinking jazz, Asian-inspired music, and more.

Spine Readers is a Bellingham power trio specializing in all sub-genres of pop music.

The Whateverly Brothers finish off the evening with their debut set of psych- and space-rock gems. With Ffej on vocals and electronics, Peter Comley and Dennis Rea on guitars, Cary Kindberg on bass, and Doug Wilkerson on drums.

Charley Churchill & The Heathens will open this stellar bill.

Seaprog and Substation present…

Clearly Beloved at Seaprog 2018, photo by Danette DavisSeaprog is proud to partner with Substation to bring you the first of what we hope will be many “Seaprog Presents” events. On Thursday, April 11, we’ve got three Seaprog veteran bands scheduled to play a show.

Moraine (2013, 2018) is one of the best known progressive bands in the Northwest, and (obviously) no stranger to our stages. But even if you’ve seen them before, it’s worth catching them now. They’ve got new material, and are fresh off their successful shows opening for the legendary Soft Machine.

Fang Chia (2014) is an eclectic group from Tacoma that combines rock, jazz, electronics, and more into a unique sound all their own. You never know what this band is going to come up with next.

Clearly Beloved (2018) was one of the highlights of last year’s festival, with their catchy, clever, artistic take on progressive folk rock. They don’t perform very often, so don’t miss this chance to catch them on stage.

For quite a few years now, the Substation has been one of Seattle’s best venues for live music, presenting a wide range of artists from many genres. Be sure to check out the Facebook event page for more details and to RSVP.

2018 Artist Announcements — Round 1

Seaprog is pleased to announce the first confirmations for the 2018 lineup, which is shaping up to be the best yet, with a set of headliners sure to thrill and amaze: Cheer-Accident, Free Salamander Exhibit, and Bubblemath. In addition, we’ve lined up a wide variety of artists from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia to provide proof that the Northwest is a home for creative music of all stripes.

Cheer-Accident (Chicago) has been one of the most prominent American bands in avant rock for more than a decade, with roots in such pioneers as Henry Cow but a disarming sense of melody and a modern anything-goes attitude.

Carrying on the legacy of the mighty Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Free Salamander Exhibit (Oakland) is a giant among genre-bending bands, straddling avant-metal, free jazz, modern Classical and more in their unique performances.

And while Bubblemath (Minneapolis) has not been the most prolific of bands, with only two albums in 17 years, but those albums stand firmly among the best American progressive releases, bringing together tightly-arranged complexity and ambitious reach with a winking sense of humor.

Since their 2014 appearance, The Mercury Tree (Portland) has been honing their style of adventurous rock music and bringing in microtonal sounds to create something truly unique, so we’re happy to give them an encore appearance on our stage.

Faun Fables is based in the Bay Area, but they occupy a realm far from the mundane world we live in. The duo presents a modern version of acid folk infused with a deep artistic sensibility that’s won them fans around the world.

Seattle’s own Clearly Beloved is a band with a vision involving violins, unpredictable songs, and baking bread.

We’re excited to be presenting our first Vancouver band, Marching Mind, to represent that city’s rich cultural scene with a sound that combines classic prog and edgy 90s rock.

Moraine played the very first Seaprog in 2013, but a lot has changed since then, with new personnel and new material, so they’re due a return engagement. Other Northwest area artists we’ve enlisted include Cantrip, Ocelot Omelet, and Himiko Cloud.

There are more contracts outstanding for other exciting artists, along with a yet-to-be-nailed-down project featuring members of the Seattle Guitar Circle, so make sure to keep paying attention. Ticket sales will be starting soon — look for an announcement in the next few days.

And finally… Seaprog is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike, and donations are tax deductible and eligible for employer-matching funds where available. Please consider helping creative music flourish by contributing to the cause. Ticket sales alone have never covered the costs of putting on the festival, and every little bit helps. Donate here.

In the first of a number of one-off events presented by Seaprog during the off-year before the festival returns in 2017, Seattle instrumental avant-rock stalwarts Moraine return to their favorite local venue in the company of two formidable festival favorites, Nosretep and Super Z Attack Team.

Join us at the Columbia City Theater on Thursday 28 January, 2016. And make sure you RSVP to the event on Facebook while you’re at it.

Of course, you’ll remember Moraine from their 2013 headlining slot. The other two groups played in the front room (Super Z Attack Team in 2014 and Nosretep in 2015), so they’ll get a chance to play the main stage this time.

Our friend Nat Damm has created a beautiful poster for the event, don’t you think?

So come join us for an evening of great music, the companionship of fellow musical pilgrims, and even the chance to pick some festival merchandise. You can see further details on the artist pages for their respective years — hint: click on the items under Events on the menu at the top of our site.
