Three headliners for 2019 are set

With the addition of Chicago’s District 97, all three headlining slots for the festival are set. We’re excited to be bringing this band to Seattle — they’ve been winning over crowds all around North America and in Europe, and are sure to fill the Columbia City Theater with their blend of new and classic sounds.

They join the previously announced headliners, Marbin and Trettioåriga Kriget, to build a lineup that exhibits the diversity in sound that Seaprog has always been known for. The other slots are being finalized now, and we should have more announcements in the near future, including several gems from right here in the Northwest. We’ll have three bands on the mainstage each evening, plus performances in the front room during the mainstage setup intervals.

Full weekend passes are one sale now for the bargain price of $90, which will work out to less than $10 per band. Once the full lineup has been announced, individual day tickets will be made available, space permitting.

Artists profile: Shimmertraps

Shimmertraps is a band based in Bellingham. After quietly releasing their debut album in 2017, Shimmertraps spent the next two years pouring their time and creative energy into what they consider to be, “our most collaborative album yet.” With the addition of 2 new members to the project, “LOOK!“ (2020) became an exciting change of pace for the band. Together, they wrote, recorded, mixed and produced the entire album in their outskirt Bellingham living room. Evolving from their dreamy soundscapes and fuzzy lofi production, Shimmertraps boldly introduces their punchy, disco-focused rhythms paired with a plethora of wide and luscious sounding synths across the sonic journey of “LOOK!”. The band has proven to blend a variety of different genres and sounds into a captivating concoction, further defining the sound of Shimmertraps.

Marbin joins the 2019 lineup

Seaprog is delighted to announce one of our headliners for the 2019 festival (June 7-9): incandescent instrumental quartet Marbin!

A high-octane progressive jazz-rock band based in Chicago, Marbin has a unique story that stands out in today’s music world. Taking a do-it-yourself approach, Marbin started touring extensively in 2011, bringing their original instrumental music to every part of the United States. Through word of mouth, Marbin has gained the attention of thousands of devoted fans all over the world, and has sold tens of thousands of albums. Marbin has released seven albums on MoonJune Records and their own Marbin Music imprint: Marbin (2009), Breaking the Cycle (2011), Last Chapter of Dreaming (2013), The Third Set (2014), Aggressive Hippies (2015), Goatman and the House of the Dead (2016) and Israeli Jazz (2018). Marbin regularly plays in clubs all over the US and in jam and jazz festivals around the world.

Seaprog 2018 May update

As the festival dates approach at roughly the pace of one day every 24 hours, the Central Committee has been busy getting everything ready behind the scenes. There is so much to do! Once again, the wonderful Nat Damm has designed our poster this year, and once again he’s come through with flying colors (mostly pale yellows, dark browns, and a kind of reddish tinge we don’t have a name for).

Two recent additions to the line-up are now posted on the artist and schedule pages. On Friday at 8:00 in the front room we’ll have a pulsating set of space rock from Star Cradle. Check out their video for a taste of what to expect. And then on Sunday, the front room will host A Word in Edgewise, a unique duo featuring Clark Battle and his custom electronic cello and Kevin Cook on drums. They’ll mix improvisation and prepared compositions in a sonic stew unlike anything you’re likely to have heard.

Advance ticket sales are humming along (in odd meters, no doubt), putting Seaprog well above previous years, proving that perseverance in the face of difficulties can pay off. A core of experienced musicians invites others to participate, including many from the world’s Guitar Circle community. The aim: share structured improvisation that sounds composed, and composed collaboration that sounds improvised.
